State of California Partners with Baby2Baby on Golden State Start
The First-in-the-Nation Program Provides Free Diapers for Every Newborn in California
Golden State Start is California’s new diaper access initiative that will provide 400 free Baby2Baby diapers to every baby born in participating hospitals, regardless of family income. Baby2Baby is proud to administer this essential program on behalf of the State of California, through the Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI), leveraging our deep experience serving families across the country and throughout California.

How the Program Works
Beginning in Summer 2026, every newborn born at a participating California hospital will receive 400 Baby2Baby diapers at no cost to the family through the Golden State Start initiative. There are no income limits, applications, or paperwork for families. Diapers will be provided around the time of hospital discharge, so parents leave with the essentials they need for the first months of life.
The program is designed to ease financial strain and support a healthy start for every California newborn. Hospitals can easily sign up to receive shipments of free Baby2Baby diapers that they distribute directly to families.
